Texas! by A24

Texas! is A24’s “local as all get-out guide” to the Lone Star State, and the second installment in the brand’s series of state travel guides (see: Florida!).

The 624-page publication explores places and traditions beloved by the real-life Texans who live there. It includes an introduction by Kacey Musgraves, excerpts from homegrown authors including Larry McMurtry, Kinky Friedman, and Jia Tolentino, original stories from Texas filmmakers and actors, recipes, and tips on everything from surviving a dust storm to buttering your salsa.

A cornflower blue is used throughout the book, evoking the bluebonnets (which famously dot roadsides throughout Texas in the spring), denim, and wide open skies. Additional colors define each chapter and also create a larger palette that’s employed throughout the book’s illustrations.

From cover to cover, the book is packed with illustration by ClayHickson, which anchors the guide’s otherwise aesthetically varied content and photography.

The book’s aforementioned blue pages, combined with a system of rules that outline images, type, and text boxes and demarcate prominent folios on the side of each page, further ground this varied content. The strong folios also serve as useful wayfinding throughout the book.

Every chapter begins with an illustrated fold-out map that doubles as a mini table of contents, highlighting featured locations.
